Our story

Our chemistry.

Chemical 404 began with a single formula that didn’t fit any of the labels we usually work behind.

Meet the founder

Meet Brandon.

“My name is Brandon and I’m an Army veteran, father of two, and a chemical engineer. I’m the head of R&D for one of the top private-label manufacturers in the automotive and marine detailing industry.”

He’s spent years turning brand ideas into chemistry, designing products that ship under hundreds of different labels. Then one came out that didn’t fit any of them.

Where the name came from

“A formula so against the norm of what this industry produces, it was almost like hitting an error code in the system.”

Brandon, on naming Chemical 404

404 is the error you hit when the page you expected isn’t there. The name stuck.

The gap

Hybrid ceramic
wax is sealant
blended with wax.

The industry has been trying to bridge wax and ceramic coatings for a decade. The execution failed. Hybrid ceramic waxes are sealant blended with wax. The two chemistries can’t properly crosslink, so the protection layer never really sets.

Rather than fix the flaw, the industry bandaged it with PTFE, a water-repellent forever chemical. It performs in the short term, but it doesn’t hold up as chemistry.

Hydro Silk does the chemistry instead.

The fix

What Hydro Silk
does.

Wax-level gloss. Modern chemistry. No workarounds.

  • 20%SiO₂ ceramic-grade chemistry in a single bottle.
  • Wax-levelGloss that reads like wax. Without the wax.
  • Hot-panelSafe to apply in direct sun.
  • 1-yearDurability with peak hydrophobics up to six months.
  • CeramicCompatible. Layer it over an existing pro coat.
  • PPF / wrapSafe. Won't fight your film or vinyl.
